March 5th 2017, a soul was born that was to transform the lives of me, Shyam @himalayan.yogi and Omkar. A month later, Ashita @ashitamathew posted some pictures and it was love at first sight. He travelled all the way from Kerala and landed in our home.
We named him Moksha. Perhaps he chose the name based on his destiny. For the first two years of his life, he was a bundle of madness. From constant mischief to throwing himself on us to shouting back loudly when he was scolded, he made it clear that he was a force to reckon with.
Exactly two years ago to this very day, he went out one morning and came back in few minutes with a swollen shoulder and crying. It looked like something had bitten him. At first he was diagnosed as possible tick fever. But within half a day of being bitten he started falling down. He was losing neurological control. Then one day he started losing all control. It could have been a stroke or degenerative myelopathy or anything really, but he was a quadriplegic. He was bedridden.
But something told us it was not yet his time. Shyam patiently dressed his wounds every single day and gaping holes became much better and eventually healed. Eventually we shifted to harness from trees, a bench below and he was happy to stand even two hours at a time looking around at the farm. He was absolutely happy. He loved his Ayurvedic oil massage and warm bath.
We travelled for a few days and were on our way back this morning when Nagaraj at home called us to say Moksha vomited and was unresponsive. He passed away within an hour, a few minutes before we arrived. It was quite likely a blood clot to his brain. He was fine last night standing from the tree. He just decided to leave. Of course we are happy that he is free now. But this time, somehow, our heart is truly broken. Coming to terms with Moksha’s lack of presence at home is heart wrenching. All our lives revolved around him.
I know that so many of you have been part of Moksha’s short but miraculous journey. Keep him with love in your hearts and pray for his soul to finally be at peace after the arduous journey he has been through.

Here’s that exciting news I spoke about to coincide with the one year anniversary of The Sleep Whisperer Podcast! Writing a book and becoming part of that magical group of authors is a dream!
Three years ago I wrote a book which I titled Sleep Whisperer, looking at sleep from a very in depth perspective, and tying together the cutting-edge science of functional medicine and eastern ancient wisdom. The story of how I wrote that book is indeed magical and a mixture of spiritual guidance and astrology(by my spiritual guide and mentor Shyam @himalayan.yogi ). It’s also been a lot of sacrifice and hard work during times that were stressful, challenging and testing in all ways.
The journey of the book from concept to acquisition is also a magical path which I will share much later. For now, I’m just humbled, grateful and quite simply excited to announce that the book has been acquired by Sonal Nerurkar @sonal_nerurkar of @harpercollinsin HarperCollins India! Sonal’s faith in the book has been unwavering and I’ll forever be grateful for it. I can’t wait for the final book release next year!

Fasting is great! But I’m seeing a lot of people who are unable to get benefits from this ancient practice. My guess is that this has a lot to do with sequence, present diet, level of stress and what’s happening within their body.

Some of the indications that the specific fasting approach you are following is not working for you are:
💙Feeling more stressed and having poor resilience to stressors around you. This can include feeling weepy, angry or overwhelmed.
💙Struggling with fatigue and forcing yourself to get through the fasting period irrespective of tiredness, dizziness or giddy.
💙One of the greatest signs of impact is struggling with sleep. This can include inability to stay asleep and not being able to stay asleep for enough time.
💙Not getting a period when you have always had a perfect cycle is a huge red flag. If your body thinks that it’s a state of emergency it shuts off reproductive function and you can miss ovulation and menstruation. I’ve actually heard women say they are happy about missing a cycle but this is really dangerous!

Does this mean fasting is not good? Far from it! I call the fasting approach that I use in practice as Strategic Fasting. This refers to using fasting techniques in specific ways at specific times with specific foods in the feeding window. It can be immensely therapeutic provided you bring it in correctly.

It’s so strange that so many women do not place stress as the greatest root cause of all their menstruated challenges. One episode of high stress can wreak havoc on your hormones and impact the flow of your cycle. 🌸The reason for this is that your body takes cholesterol and produces both cortisol which is the stress hormone and progesterone which is your sex hormone.

🌸Instead it prioritises the production of your stress hormone cortisol.
🌺This means you can go a whole cycle without ovulation or making progesterone.
🌸This makes you stressed, anxious, unable to sleep, overwhelmed, depressed and a whole lot more!
